Trans-Seasonal Clothing Essentials
Autumn has officially begun in Australia, with the cold weather hitting right after the Easter break. I've seen some orange leaves on the trees and I'm very excited to get into my more snuggly clothes. Australia is a little funny with Autumn and Spring, in that we almost skip them completely. The weather is pretty much either hot, or cold; there are only a few days when the weather is in between.
I don't know about anyone else, but as soon as the weather turned cold and I went to get dressed in the morning, I found I didn't really like any of the wintery clothes I had from last year. Which, brilliantly, gave me an excuse to buy more clothes! So here are a few ideas for anyone who is in the same boat as me and needs some new trans-seasonal items.

Pants
Funnel/roll/turtle neck: This season I've developed a major love for funnel, roll and turtle neck lines. I think they can really add class and sophistication to an outfit, and are great for that added bit of warmth around the neck; which can make a huge difference.
Sleeves: Whether they're short, 3/4 or long, even just having your shoulders covered makes a big difference to how warm your outfit will be.
Ribbed: Ribbed material is really on trend this season, and can be a great way to add a different texture to your outfit. I'm a big fan.
Tees: I love a simple jersey tee or boyfriend tee no matter what the season; they're super comfy and I like the baggier look.
Colours: I'm loving grey and navy this season, as well as the obvious black and white. I'm a sucker for a colourless wardrobe.

Outerwear
Jeans: A necessity for any wardrobe and something that you will wear over and over throughout the colder seasons. Because you get so much wear out of them and you know they'll be in fashion until the end of time, they're the type of item you can spend a little extra on to ensure you're getting the perfect fit and great quality. Topshop have brilliant jeans at really good prices.
Ponte Leggings: One of my absolute favourite things to wear when the weather is cooler. They're so incredibly comfy and the thick material makes them quite flattering, compared to the standard thinner leggings (no).
Other pants: For me these would be something similar to the white cigarette trousers pictured above. They could be a patterned pair of pants in any other material really, but its great to have an option that isn't jeans for dressier occasions.

Footwear
Outwear is a great way to take a boring outfit and make it look really stylish and like you've put a lot of effort in (when you haven't). My favourite style at the moment is a really simple base outfit- simple jeans or ponte leggings, and a boyfriend tee or ribbed funnel neck top - then just throw a statement jacket or big floppy cardigan over top, then add some nice shoes and a classy bag and you're good to go. Because the outerwear can make or break your outfit I would say it justifies spending a little more on, as long as they're items that will stay in fashion for more than one season.
Outerwear ideas: Duster coats, oversized chunky cardigans, flowy trench coats, bomber jackets, ribbed roll neck jumpers, and denim jackets.

Sneakers: My favourites are white low top Converse and black and white Nike Roshe Runs. The Converse go with virtually any outfit, and the Nikes are so damn comfortable and I really like the look of them.
Loafers: I love the grey loafers pictured, but they're ridiculously expensive and I'm sure something similar could be found for cheaper. Loafers are great for just slipping on and keeping things simple but classy.
Boots: Finding the right pair of boots is almost impossible, but they really are a Autumn/winter staple and very on trend this season. Zara have a great selection (I got mine last week from Zara but couldn't find an image of them).
Skaters: These are the bottom middle style, which are very in this season. I love them in black pony hair. I think they make every outfit look that little bit cooler while still not having to put any effort in. Windsor Smith and Wittner have great pairs in this style.
Flats: Another great simple and easy shoe to slip on. These black flats with the gap in the middle look so sophisticated and are something a little different. A lot of shops have this style in at the moment, so shop around before buying.

Bags
Style: As you can probably tell, I have a definite favourite style of handbag. I love a highly structured bag because I feel like they look so sophisticated and really add more classiness to any outfit. They're also great for storing all your stuff in, because the structure makes it easier to rummage around in without the bag collapsing in parts and making it all the more difficult to find your keys.
Colour: You can never go wrong with a black handbag; they don't show the dirt nearly as much as other colours, they're classic and classy and go with everything. I also love grey and white tones, as well as light blue and navy, but they're a lot more risky when it comes to showing dirt.
Price: I've recently developed a real handbag obsession, and every one I find that I fall in love with seems to be $300+, which is ridiculous to me. Anything over about $150 I have a lot of trouble justifying buying. However, I use my handbag every single day without fail, so if I bought a $300 bag thats less than $1 a day..... prepare yourself bank account! My number one want right now is a black, grey or navy Michael Kors Selma Bag. I have, however, managed to find a few cheap bags that look reasonably similar to the designer ones at H&M (shown above).

Accessories
Autumn Essentials - Accessories by Bec Rodriguez
Sunglasses: A statement pair of sunnies is a great way to accessories and jazz up (lol) an outfit. Quay is an Australian brand that have some great pairs at the moment. Sportsgirl are always quite good as well.
Hats: I love a good hat for Autumn; the sun is still out but its a little cold so a hat is the perfect accessory to keep your head warm in style. I'm not, however, a fan of people wearing hats shopping and to other all-indoor locations; hats are for the sun.
Watches: I've also developed a great obsession with watches lately. My favourite brand at the moment is The Horse. I love really simple watches in grey, black, brown and white. I also love a bit of rose gold thrown in there.
Phone cases: A great way to add a subtle touch of style to your outfit. Lets face it, you're sure to go on your phone at some point during the day, so why not have a brilliant phone case on for when you do.
Headphones: These rose gold and white headphones by Frends are to die for! The price is not so appealing though.
